Welcome to Year 4

Class Information:

Homework:
  • Spellings: Handed out on a Friday ready for the spelling test the following Thursday.

  • Other homework: Handed out on a Friday to be completed for no later than the following Thursday.

  • Reading: Children will come home with reading diaries and reading books. These are to be taken between home and school every day. We ask that you please listen to your children read at least 3 times a week and sign in their diaries – this does not always have to be the book that they bring home.

  • Times tables are a big focus this year and children are encouraged to practise these regularly at home.

Reading:
  • Please encourage your child to experience a range of reading that includes both fiction and non-fiction as well as newspapers and magazine style text.

  • Children will come home with a school reading book; these are to be taken between home and school every day.

  • Please let us know if there has been a particular author or book your child has really enjoyed, as we are constantly looking to widen our book corner with books that can hook others into reading.

PE:
  • Our PE days are Tuesday and Wednesday. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit on Tuesdays and bring their kit on Wednesdays.

Classroom Routines:
  • Children are encouraged to bring a filled water bottle (water only, no juice please) to school each day, they will have opportunities to refill their bottles throughout the day. It is their responsibility to take it home each day – although we will remind them 😊 We will provide a fruit snack for morning break or they can bring fruit from home.

  • We have daily sessions of Maths, English and reading. This may be independent reading, group reading or whole class reading.

  • Children are provided with all the equipment that they may need for their lessons so there is no need for them to bring pencil cases in.

  • Please discourage children from bringing games, toys or other possessions into school other than if asked. We cannot look for broken, swapped or lost possessions.
