Meet The Staff
Welcome to Year 3
It is great to be back in the classroom and getting into a routine. The children have all settled well into Year 3 and are ready to learn. I thought I would let you know my plan in regards to homework for the coming Year.
As a rule I will upload a homework worksheet on a Thursday and ask for it to be returned (via dojo) the following Friday. I will not be able to accept any sheets on paper due to the current measures in place for COVID19. Some of the sheets I upload your child may find easy but the idea is for homework to be used for revision purposes. As the year progresses the sheets will get harder. Please bare in mind there are some limitations to setting online homework so there may be limited variation.
Reading- again due to COVID19 we will not be sending reading books home as they are a possible source of contamination. Your child will have a book in school and myself or Mrs Jones will read with your child once a week on a one to one bases.
Ebooks can be found online at: https://www.oxfordowl.co.uk/for-home/find-a-book/library-page/.
You will need to create an account to access the books, but this is free. In the coming weeks we will assess your child's level and send you an individual link which will take you to the Ebooks appropriate for the level your child is at. For the time being any reading will be beneficial (the book bands start at 1, the easiest and go to 15, which are more challenging). Of course you are more than welcome to read books that you have at home as well as these Ebooks or in addition to them. The more you can read with your child the better :).
Spelling- I will not be sending spellings home this year for the same reasons as above. Instead we will have a lesson a week concentrating on spellings/handwriting. To begin with we will be working on the first 200 high frequency words. Then after Christmas we will be focusing on the Year 3 statutory spellings.`
To support work in class, we ask that children read every night.
Precision maths folders are given out on a Friday and we ask that they are returned on the following Thursday.
Spellings will be set on a Friday and we ask that they are learnt ready for the following Thursday.
Other homework may be issued on an ad hoc basis.
In Year Three children will come home with a reading book and reading record book for home reading. Please aim to listen to them read this book at least 3 times per week.
The majority of reading is taught through guided reading.
Often we will try to slip additional reading in during the day. For this reason please ensure that your child’s reading book is in class every day.
Our PE lessons are on Mondays, please ensure that your child has their kit in school on these days.
We have daily sessions of reading, English and maths. The children will be split into groups according to our assessments of their ability.
We place a big emphasis on children working collaboratively within lessons.
Children are provided with all of the equipment that they may need for their lessons so there is no need for them to bring pencil cases in.
Please contact us on the yard if we are available or write a short note.
Please note that we do not read messages in the reading diary unless we are reading with your child.
Please can you discourage children from bringing games, toys or other possessions into school other than if asked. We cannot look for broken, swapped or lost possessions.
